Shampoo for colored hair

Shampoo for colored hair

Why use a special shampoo for coloured hair?

When you dye your hair, the cuticles are chemically opened to lock in the colour pigments. Regular shampoos often have a cleansing action that is too strong, causing these cuticles to open again and the colour pigments to wash out quickly.

A special shampoo for coloured hair is specifically formulated with a lower pH and gentle cleansers. As a result, the cuticles stay closed, colour fading (oxidation) is minimised, and your coloured style retains its vibrancy and shine for much longer.

What does a shampoo for coloured hair do?

A shampoo for coloured hair does much more than simply cleanse; it acts as a protective shield. These advanced formulas have a triple action:

  • Colour fixation: It seals the colour pigments deep within the hair fibre.

  • UV protection: It contains UV filters that help prevent sunlight from dulling or fading the hair colour.

  • Deep repair: Coloured hair is often chemically treated and needs extra care. The shampoo nourishes and hydrates the porous areas of the hair, helping to keep it frizz-free and giving it a healthy shine.

Is shampoo for coloured hair sulphate-free?

Not every shampoo for coloured hair is automatically sulphate-free, but the best ones are. Sulphates (such as SLS and SLES) are powerful cleansers that create lots of foam, but they can strip artificial colour pigments and natural oils from the hair.

Keune’s professional colour-protecting shampoos are specifically developed with gentle, sulphate-free or low-sulphate alternative cleansers. This provides a mild cleanse for the scalp without affecting the intensity of your salon colour.

How often should you wash coloured hair?

To keep your colour looking beautiful for as long as possible, the advice is: wash your hair no more than 2 to 3 times a week. The more often coloured hair comes into contact with water and shampoo, the faster the colour molecules escape.

  • First 48 hours: Do not wash your hair in the first 48 hours after your colouring treatment; the pigments still need to fully bind.

  • In between washes: If your hair becomes greasy in the meantime, use a dry shampoo to delay a wash.

How do you use shampoo for coloured hair for the best results?

For maximum colour retention, follow these steps:

  • Use lukewarm water: Hot water opens the cuticles, causing colour to fade faster. Always wash your hair with warm or lukewarm water.

  • Focus on the scalp: Apply a small amount of shampoo to the roots and massage gently. The lengths will be clean enough when you rinse the shampoo out.

  • Finish with cool water: Rinse out the shampoo for coloured hair (and the corresponding conditioner for coloured hair) with cooler water to help close the cuticles even more for intense shine.

  • Always use a conditioner: A colour-protecting conditioner is important to seal in the care.
