Silicone-free hair mask
Silicone-free hair mask
Want to give your hair intensive care without making it feel heavy or flat? A silicone-free hair mask hydrates and nourishes your hair with plant-based oils and extracts, without the coating that silicones can create. KEUNE offers four silicone-free hair masks, and all of them are vegan.
What do silicones do in a hair mask?
Silicones form a thin, smooth coating around the hair fibre. This immediately makes your hair feel softer, adds shine and makes it easier to comb. That's why silicones are commonly used in hair care products.
Want to know exactly how they work? Read our article about silicones in shampoo. The explanation of how silicones work also applies to conditioners and hair masks.
Why choose a silicone-free hair mask?
Product build-up and weighing hair down
Not all types of silicone rinse out easily. If you frequently use products containing silicones and wash your hair with a mild shampoo, product build-up can occur. Your hair may start to feel heavy and lose volume more quickly. Fine hair can be particularly sensitive to this.
Does your hair already feel limp and flat shortly after washing? Switching to silicone-free hair care for a while may help. Your hair can still benefit from hydration and nourishment without silicones that may accumulate with repeated use.
The Curly Girl Method
People following the Curly Girl Method (CG Method) often choose silicone-free products to prevent build-up on their curls. Always check the complete ingredient list, as the rules of the CG Method can vary depending on personal preferences.

Does a hair mask contain sulphates or parabens?
Many people look for hair masks without silicones, sulphates and parabens. Sulphates are cleansing ingredients primarily found in shampoos. Hair masks are designed to condition rather than cleanse, so they generally do not contain cleansing sulphates.
Read more about these ingredients in our article on sulphates in shampoo.
Parabens are preservatives. They help protect cosmetic products from the growth of bacteria and fungi, keeping them safe to use for longer. Some people consciously choose products without these ingredients.
Learn more in our article about what parabens are.
In our FAQ, we also answer the question of which hair masks are free from silicones, sulphates and parabens.

How do you use a silicone-free hair mask?
Apply the mask to towel-dried hair after shampooing, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. Leave it on according to the instructions on the packaging, usually 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Wrapping a warm towel around your hair can make the treatment feel even more luxurious.
For dry or damaged hair, using a hair mask once a week is a good starting point. For normal hair, once every two weeks is often enough. If you have fine hair, avoid using a rich mask too frequently, as even a silicone-free hair mask can weigh your hair down.
A complete silicone-free hair care routine
A silicone-free hair mask works well alongside a shampoo and conditioner that are also free from silicones. This helps you avoid silicone build-up from other products in your routine.
Start with a silicone-free shampoo and use a silicone-free conditioner on days when you skip your hair mask.
If you also use styling products, remember to check their ingredient lists.
