1. Dull hair

Shine is an important indicator of hair health. Shine is the light reflection from a smooth and healthy hair surface into your eyes.

How did I get dull hair?

Chemical and mechanical damage will affect the shine of your hair. Ends become less shiny than roots because of weathering.

Your solution

The key to getting rid of dull hair is by using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. Shampoos give shine by removing dirt and sebum from the hair surface. Conditioners give shine by lubricating the hair which makes it easier to align the fibers. The best way to figure out which shampoo works for you is by trying out different shampoos. You can also go to your hairdresser for advice - the experts in salons can often indicate quickly what hair type you have, where you go wrong in your hair care routine, and they know the products better.

2. Dry, porous, or damaged hair

The texture or feel of damaged hair is different from that of healthy hair. Most people tend to use the term "dry damaged hair" to describe the rough texture. Experts call this hair problem porosity. Porosity refers to openings in the cuticle (outer layer) of the hair. In healthy hair, the cuticle is closed and can absorb and hold water and other ingredients. This keeps the hair hydrated and looking healthy and shiny. Hair that is porous is damaged and therefore unable to close on the cuticle. The hair is then dry, fragile, and prone to split ends.

How did I get dry damaged hair?

There are four different ways your hair could’ve been damaged:

  • Chemical treatments like perming, bleaching, and coloring

  • Heat processes like straightening or blow-drying

  • Mechanical processes like combing and brushing

  • Environmental processes like UV light and saltwater

Chemical treatments like perming and bleaching affect the elasticity of the hair. They change the inner’s hair structure, which results in less elasticity. Also, the texture of hair will be strongly affected by repeated chemical processing, as well as blow-drying and straightening too hot, resulting in permanently damaged cuticles. Sunlight and saltwater break and dry out the hair, causing the hair to lose strength and shine.

Your solution

Use products that are able to condition the surface of the hair, reduce flyaways, restore elasticity, improve dry hair feeling, increase manageability and restore split ends. You can find this information often on the packages of the products. When you want to continue straightening or blow-drying your hair it is wise to use heat protection before exposing your hair to the heat process. On hot days we advise you to use products that protect against the influences of sunlight and saltwater to maintain a healthy hair structure and scalp.

3. Color fading

A common hair problem is fading of your color. And that's even more though when you've spent quite a few hours in the hairdresser's chair for it.

How did my hair color fade?

Your hair color can fade by multiple influences. One reason is that you are not using the right shampoo for your color to last. Normal shampoos are lacking ingredients designed to prevent the pigments from washing out more easily. The other reason is sunlight - it decompresses both natural and artificial pigment which causes fading.

Your solution

Use products that reduce the influences of sunlight and are enriched with a color stabilizer to extend the longevity of the hair color. You can find this information often on the packages of the products. Or ask your hairdresser for advice.

4. Limp hair

The volume of hair usually determines a hairstyle. Reason enough why it can’t lack volume!

How did I get limp hair?

It can be that you have a natural absence of volume, especially when your hair structure is very fine. Fine hair is smaller in diameter, delicate, sensitive, and difficult to shape. Fine hair is also weaker and weakens further due to natural aging and external influences such as shampooing, blow-drying, and brushing. Unfortunately, less hair equals less volume. In addition, too much sebum can cause hair to stick together, resulting in less volume.

Your solution

Use products that influence the diameter, density, curve, friction, cohesion, and strength to tackle the volume concerns. You can find this information often on the packages of the products. Or ask your hairdresser for advice.

5. Frizzy hair

Hair is seen as healthy if there is no frizz. Hair without frizz feels smoother, softer, and more nourished.

How did I get frizzy hair?

For women with straight hair, frizzy hair appears as small fibers attached to the main body of hair. These small fibers lack shine. For women with curly or wavy hair, frizz is caused by each fiber having its own shape and doing what it wants. As a result, there is no controlled curl and this leads to less curl definition and more frizz. Cuticle loss and split ends can cause the hair to appear frizz as well.

Frizz is often related to high humidity and high-temperature conditions. When it’s excessively humid and warm, the hair can absorb more water particles. The diffusion of water vapor inside the hair then causes frizz.

Your solution

Use products that protect against humidity and control frizz in all hair shapes are able to tackle these concerns. You can find this information often on the packages of the products. Or ask your hairdresser for advice.

6. Coarse and undefined curls

Who wouldn't want a giant forest of curls like Diana Ross and Beyoncé? With a bunch like that, it's just important to be able to control the curls.

How did I get coarse and undefined curls?

How the hair curls depend on factors like the twist of a curl, waves, and kinks in the hair. Curl types differ a lot around the world, varying from slightly wavy to extremely curly. People with wavy to curly hair often have issues with frizz. People with extremely curly hair often have problems with manageability. The tighter the curl, the harder it is to work through the hair. Spirals are the most compact curl types and have the most fragile and dry texture.

Your solution

Use products that add elasticity, bounce, and nourishment to the hair while controlling frizz and defining the curls. Keune for example has a complete product line, especially for curly hair.
